Whole House Protection |
Power surges are sudden large fluctuations in voltage. Surges are usually caused by lightning strikes, storms or damage to the Cooperative's power system. The damages caused by these surges can be mitigated with the installation of surge protection devices.
Steuben Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. has designed a Power Quality Management Program (PQMP) to help our members protect their home appliances and electronics.
The PQMP has four levels of protection, when combined, they offer the best protection for your home.
The first level of protection is the HomeGuard meter base device. It protects against external surge currents up to 65,000 amps. It carries a 15 year product warranty and an up to $6 million connected equipment warranty for your major home appliances. Microwaves and garage door openers need a separate device for protection.

The AC Cube is a one outlet device designed for use with the HomeGuard meter base device. Protecting microwaves and garage door openers.

The AC Plugstrip is an eight outlet TELCO device for digital satellite systems, cable TV, computers, home theatre systems and the like. It includes a telephone line outlet and a coaxial cable line.

The AC Wallmount device with TELCO offers protection fro applications such as answering machines, cordless phones, space heaters, freezers, hot tubs, etc. An LED indicates correct wiring and grounding.

The HomeGuard service entrance device must be used in all applications where the meter service is not installed on the hours. it offers the same protection as the meter device, however, it must be installed by a qualified electrician in the panel box.

Steuben REC, Inc. has designed two whole house kits. The first kit includes the HomeGuard meter base device, one AC Cube, one AC Plug strip and one AC Wallmount device.

Steuben REC, Inc. is offering the HomeGuard service entrance device, the AC Cube, the AC Plugstrip and the AC Wallmount devices to the general public as well as our members. The general public will need to contact the Member Services Department for current prices.
